Arua Uganda has grown into AIM AIR’s busiest base of operations, with almost 70% of AIM AIR’s flying originating from here. With more flying comes the need for more staff, more aircraft, and more maintenance.

For years, we have had to keep our aircraft located outside at the Arua airport, exposed to the sun and elements and without the infrastructure to perform regular maintenance. Currently, we have to fly our Arua-based aircraft to Nairobi for maintenance (on average) 4 times a year per aircraft - costing AIM AIR around $24,000 a year just to do reposition flights for maintenance.

Increased operations flying from Arua has led to a need for constructing a maintenance facility and parts storage for our aircraft. In addition to the hangar, we are also in need of a “tug” for moving aircraft around. The Cessna Caravan is too heavy to push by hand and a tug would allow us to tow it from the hangar all the way down to the terminal where we load cargo.

The current estimated cost for constructing a permanent hangar would be approximately $200,000. And the cost of a new tug is $60,000.

This project will expand the capabilities of our busiest operations base, allowing for faster turn-around of aircraft through their scheduled maintenance, and improving readiness by keeping them closer to the borders of some of the most unpredictable and unstable parts of Africa where we fly.
